Whats new in Sawston, have your say

Lynton Way Skatepark,

Update: After the presentation evening, Betongpark is currently updating the plan to incorporate the comments from the public consultation and will contact the council soon with a revised plan.

The Skate park design will be presented to Sawston residents on 9th July at the Mill Lane Pavilion, Mill Lane, from 4:00-7:00 PM.

Please come along and share your suggestions and comments with the company that will build the skate park for us.

Lynton Way Pavilion

The Plans below show a basic concept of what we should include in a new pavilion to be an asset for Sawston. Many features of the new Pavilion are fixed as a “must have” so that football teams have changing rooms and showers for both home and away teams and facilities for the referee. As you can see on the pavilion plan view, vehicle parking will be increased. Please, may we ask for your comments using the feedback form shown below by selecting “Lynton Way Pavilion” on the drop-down list.

20 mph speed limit

Cambridgeshire County Council provides funding every year for Parish councils to apply for funding to introduce 20MPH speed limits for roads that would benefit from lower speed limits. Our main focus must be the safety of pedestrians and cyclists who use our inner roads daily in Sawston.

The primary need for a 20MPH limit would be New road that carries all the traffic to Sawston Village College. Approximately 1,400 secondary school children use New Road daily, many of whom use bicycles and lifts in cars at the same time, competing with HGV vehicles and six buses that bring pupils from neighbouring villages. The application process requires all applicants (parish councils) to answer very detailed questions, and a panel then awards 10 councils with funding from a list of over >100 councils applying this year. 6 out of the 10 who applied and won were councils proposing whole village schemes. With that result in mind, we looked at other roads within the central core area of Sawston that would also benefit from a 20MPH limit being applied, and on that, we do need your detailed thoughts and guidance.

The map below of Sawston shows the proposed idea of a global 20MPH speed limit with the focus on making our roads safer for pedestrians and cyclists, starting on roads that enter our village on the boundary of Sawston. Please note that for clarity, all minor roads will be subject to the same 20MPH zone if not shown on the map below within Sawston.
