Sawston Parish Council represents the residents of the civil parish of Sawston. It provides and looks after local amenities for the village, including sports and recreation grounds, pavilions, play areas, open spaces, allotments and the village cemetery. These are funded by a precept which is paid by residents as part of their council tax.
Sitting at the bottom tier of local government, it works closely with South Cambridgeshire District Council and Cambridgeshire County Council. Each body has different responsibilities – whilst the parish council has little power, it does have significant influence especially on planning issues.
There are spaces for up to 19 councillors who are elected or co-opted for up to 4 years at a time.
The council employs seven full-time and part-time staff, and has offices on Link Road, next to the Bellbird School.
